The Roger Farrer Energy Conference is one of Oklahoma’s premier forums for energy efficiency, energy management, emerging technologies, and the future of the energy industry.

Conference is jointly organized by the Association of Energy Engineers Oklahoma Chapter (AEEOK) and the Oklahoma State University Great Plains Center of Excellence (GPCoE). The inaugural Awards Gala Night will be held on October 7, 2026 at Chicken 'n Pickle, and the 2026 conference will be held on October 8, 2026, at the Hamm Institute for American Energy in Oklahoma City.

Named in honor of Roger Farrer for his decades of leadership in energy efficiency and energy management, the conference brings together industry professionals, utilities, researchers, educators, government agencies, tribal organizations, students, and technology providers.

The AEEOK/GPCoE Roger Farrer Energy Conference brings together energy professionals in Oklahoma and beyond to shape the future of energy.

We invite industry professionals, academics, researchers, utilities, consultants, government agencies, tribal organizations, students, and technology providers to submit abstracts for presentations for this annual event.

As energy systems evolve to meet growing demands for reliability, resilience, affordability, sustainability, and workforce development, this conference will showcase practical solutions, innovative technologies, and successful projects driving the next generation of energy management.

STUDENT POSTER PRESENTATION COMPETITION

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE

• Currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at any Oklahoma college, university, community college, or technical institution.
• Students from all academic disciplines are welcome. There is one competition category for all participants.
• Entries may be individual or team-based; teams of up to four students are recommended. At least one student author must attend the official judging period.
• A faculty adviser is optional and may guide the work, but the student(s) must present it.

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS AND CONFERENCE ALIGNMENT

Original research is welcome but not required. Eligible work includes capstone or class projects, Live Projects, energy audits, case studies, literature reviews, technology evaluations, data or economic analyses, conceptual designs, proposed projects, and community, Tribal projects, workforce, or sustainability initiatives.

Entries must address an energy challenge or opportunity and connect with the conference theme, Managing the Next Energy Frontier. Topics may include energy efficiency and management; resilience, reliability, and sustainability; AI and data centers; grid modernization; emerging technologies; Oklahoma's energy future; Tribal energy; energy workforce; energy generation, energy storage, microgrids, affordability, energy policy, energy security, and related areas.

FORMAT AND REQUIRED CONTENT

• Format:
•  (1) Poster - Create 12 PowerPoint slides and print one slide per regular 8.5 x 11-inch sheet. Arrange the sheets clearly in the assigned poster display area.
• (2) Live Project – Bring your project for live demonstration and presentation (you may want to also create poster for your project, but it is optional).
• Identification: Include the project title, student author(s), institution, and adviser/mentor, if applicable.
• Project story: Clearly present the problem or opportunity, background, approach or methodology, results/findings or proposed solution, conclusions, limitations or next steps, and energy impact.
• Sources: Cite references and acknowledge collaborators or previously published work where appropriate.
• Design: Use readable text, a logical sequence, and effective figures, tables, graphics, and captions. The display should be understandable to both technical and non-technical attendees.

PRESENTATION AND FINALIST SHOWCASE

• Poster/Live-Project judging: 3-5 minutes to explain the project, followed by 2-3 minutes of questions from the judges.
• Top 3 finalists: The three highest-scoring entries will give a 3-minute Energy in 3 stage pitch followed by up to 2 minutes of Q&A.
• Team entries: One student or multiple team members may present, but all presenters should understand the complete project.
